The fabulous Sun City Resort, only about two hours drive from Johannesburg, offers two great golf courses as well as a multitude of non-golfing activities.
The superb Gary Player Country Club is host to the annual Nedbank Challenge, a world premier event which takes place over the first weekend in December each year. Prize money is over USD 4 million and this popular event attracts top golfers from all over the world.
The course is rated number two in South Africa and is simply superb. The course meanders through some magnificent scenery and the views from just about every hole are stunning.
The Lost City course, also designed by Gary Player, is both unusual and
challenging. The Clubhouse is beautiful and the deck looks out over the 9th and 18th holes, which are separated by a great water feature. Golf cars are compulsory on this course and are included in the green fees.
As for accommodation the Palace Hotel is truly impressive and highly recommended. It is opulent, splendid and very, very different. Staying in this fabulous hotel is a real must as it is so unique. Nearby is the Cascades Hotel, also a lovely place to stay if your budget doesn’t stretch to the Palace.
In the resort restaurants abound and there’s a huge Entertainment Centre if gambling is your game. Other activities at the Resort are too numerous to mention!
Sun City borders on the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which is well worth a visit. It’s very beautiful, being set in the crater of an extinct volcano. A wide variety of game is found here.
